Introducing Adaptive Composition

We are excited to announce the first feature in our next generation meeting experience – Adaptive Composition.

Adaptive Composition uses artificial intelligence (AI) to provide a richer meeting experience, empowering people to be seen and to engage with each other in a better way.

We’re sure your customers are going to be blown away by this so get ready …

What is Adaptive Composition?

With real-time face detection, auto-framing, and intelligent layout arrangements, Adaptive Composition works with any camera-enabled device and any client. While others have tried to achieve this from a room perspective (i.e. zooming at camera level), Pexip’s unique architecture, combining AI with transcoding, allows this to be solved at the platform layer. This is device-agnostic and works with the technology users already have to ensure every person is included and seen.

What are the Benefits?

Participant auto-framing:Often, users do not realize how their video feed is framed in a meeting, causing them to appear off-centered or small in a large room. Pexip uses AI to automatically detect faces and optimize their placement on the screen, creating a more natural, engaging experience. Adaptive Composition is device-agnostic and works with any camera, client or video system; it also adapts and works in conjunction with room-based camera framing.

Intelligent composition: Traditional meeting services rely on basic voice detection to determine who is featured. The person or group making the most noise gets priority, even if that noise comes from shuffling papers, unmuted microphones, or unwanted background noise. When this happens, large groups are often demoted from view, making people’s faces less visible. Pexip’s new adaptive composition feature prioritizes rooms with more people, in addition to the active speakers, to ensure the most active rooms to remain featured at all times.

New meeting indicators: Every meeting is different. People may join from different devices, join late, join the wrong meeting, or start recording in the middle of a conversation. Pexip’s new embedded meeting experience gives hosts the information they need to lead a productive meeting, so they can stop wasting time trying to understand these elements. New meeting indicators show attendee count, audio-only users, and lock and recording status, so both hosts and attendees can understand the meeting environment just as if it was an in-person meeting. In addition, display names appear when participants speak, ensuring that speakers are easily identified even without reaching the top of the meeting layout. This creates a less distracting user interface and allows individual speakers to remain in focus.

When will it be ready?

To build the momentum for Adaptive Composition that it deserves, Pexip will start public promotion of the feature this week and we will be demoing it at ISE in Amsterdam from 11th – 14th February. If you’re headed to ISE, make sure you sign up for a demo for you and your customers!

Adaptive Composition will be available as a tech preview in version 23 of Pexip Infinity, coming Q1 2020. You will then be able to try it out and demo it by enabling it from the management portal.
